Stretching, bodyweight work, light dumbbells
Start with thin foam. ProsourceFit itself describes its ½-inch checkered tiles as the lighter-padding option more compatible with residential spaces.
If someone lives below you, the floor is the first piece of home gym equipment. Here's how two foam puzzle mats and one rubber tile compare on what renters actually deal with: cost, coverage, setup, and how easily it all comes back up when you move out.
Compared from manufacturer specifications, product pages, warranty terms, and official CPSC records. Nook Strength has not hands-on tested these products.

Start with thin foam. ProsourceFit itself describes its ½-inch checkered tiles as the lighter-padding option more compatible with residential spaces.
Step up to thicker foam. For extra padding under heavier weights, ProsourceFit points buyers to its 1-inch checkered tiles.
Rubber tiles are the more permanent option. They cost far more for the same floor area and, for small orders, shipping cost is not published (see below).
No mat makes an upstairs apartment silent. None of these three products publishes impact-noise data, so we don't rank them by quietness. More on that below.

Role: The renter-friendly starting point.
Six 24 × 24-inch EVA foam tiles and twelve end borders cover 24 square feet for a $29.99 list price. ProsourceFit describes this thickness as the lighter-padding option more compatible with residential spaces, and the tiles detach and stack for storage, which matters if your "gym" is also your living room.
Role: More cushion for setting dumbbells down.
Same 24 × 24-inch format and 24 square feet per six-tile set, at twice the thickness and a $52.99 list price. ProsourceFit positions the 1-inch version for extra padding under heavier weights. Like the ½-inch set, the tiles detach and stack.
Role: A rubber floor for a weight corner that stays put.
Each tile is 19.5 × 19.5 inches and ¾ inch thick, made with 60% post-consumer recycled rubber. Tiles connect with plastic pins, with no adhesive or tools required; Rubber-Cal also offers a glue-down installation, which renters should skip.
The cost difference is real. At the $28.50 per-tile list price (Coal), covering 24 square feet takes roughly 10 tiles, about $285 before shipping — more than five times the 1-inch ProsourceFit set for similar area. Real layouts can need more tiles, because 19.5-inch tiles don't divide evenly into most rooms. Rubber-Cal offers free shipping only on orders over $999 and does not publish shipping costs for smaller orders.
A mat changes how your weights and feet meet the floor. It doesn't change the building. None of the products here publishes impact-noise ratings, so nobody can honestly promise you a number.
What helps regardless of which mat you buy:
A mat under a walking pad mostly protects the floor and keeps the machine from shifting. Check your pad's footprint against the mat's coverage before you buy: ProsourceFit's 24 × 24-inch tiles come six to a set.

We compared these products using manufacturer product pages, manufacturer warranty pages, and official U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission records, checked October 16, 2026. Prices are manufacturer list prices on that date, before shipping. Where a manufacturer doesn't publish something, we say so instead of estimating. Cost-per-area figures are our own arithmetic from published tile sizes and prices.
We searched the CPSC's Recalls and Product Safety Warnings databases for "ProsourceFit," "Rubber-Cal" and "Eco-Sport" on October 16, 2026, and found no listings for these products.

No mat can promise that, and none of these three publishes impact-noise data. A mat helps; how you set weights down and what your building is made of matter too.
Not necessarily. ProsourceFit itself describes its ½-inch tiles as more compatible with residential spaces and positions the 1-inch tiles for heavier weights. Match thickness to what you'll do on it.
For roughly 24 square feet, the Eco-Sport tiles come to about $285 at list price before shipping, versus $29.99–$52.99 for a ProsourceFit foam set.
ProsourceFit tiles detach and stack. Eco-Sport tiles connect with removable pins unless you choose the optional glue-down installation.
It covers manufacturing defects only, not normal wear and tear, for US-resident original purchasers, and the remedy is a replacement.
